Abstract
85 7. SUMMARY The aim of the study is to investigate whether the midwives are carry out their duties properly under the supervision of the Melikgazi and Kocasinan Health Group Committee. The study carried out in then district of the above-mentioned health group committee was based on the work of 103 midwives and covers the penned from October 94 - March 95. A questionnaire prepared by the investigators, was filled in during discussions with the midwives. The data was coded, then the necessary statistical analysis was performed by computer. Of the midwives in this study, 71.8 % had been working in the primary health centers for less than 5 years. 25.2 % of the midwives were found to have the required materials in their bags. 80.5 % of the midwives had attended training courses and 29.1 % of the midwives had acquired the I.LF.D. certificate. Most of the midwives were aware of the assignation schedule and cold chain and the examinations for rickets and congenital hip dislocations. They were able to describe low birth weight 9.7 % of the pregnancy record cards and 14.8 % of the baby record cards were kept accurately for the population of the district under investigation.86 According to the pregnancy records 37.9 % of the pregnant women were with TT1 and 14.6 % were with TT2 3.9 % of the pregnant women were given pre-natal education appropriate to the month of their pregnancy. 6.8 % of the midwives were checking the babies in the post natal period. 27.2 % of the midwives were giving information and advice to the mothers about diarrhoea and other ailments. In the midwives area, effective contraceptive method ussing percentage was : % 21.8 I.U.D. ; % 12.8 pills, % 10.1 condom. In the midwive's area the percent age of mothers giving birth without any assistance was 10.56 %, 16.4 % of mothers gave birth with the assistance of a midwife and 71.80 % gave birth in a hospital. As a result of the investigation and data collected, appropriate advice has been given. 85 7.
