Abstract
Mevcut çalışma her iki oyunda da ekspresiyonizm ve sembolizmin özelliklerini sunmak için Wilder'in `Kasabamız` ( Our Town) ve `Ramak Kala` (The Skin of Our Teeth) eserlerini incelemeyi hedeflemektedir. `Kasabamız` (1938), halkın günlük hayatlarının rotasında 1901 ve1913 arasında kurgusal küçük bir Amerikan kasabası Grover's Corners' in hikayesini anlatan hemen hemen çıplak sahneli 3 perdelik bir oyundur ve Ramak Kala, hiç bitmeyen insanlık hallerini sunan ve kurgusal Excelisor, New Jersey kasabasındaki Antrobus ailesini sahneye uyarlayan insanoğlunun hayatıyla ilgili üç bölümlü bir alegoridir. Wilder 20. Thornton Wilder, the great American novelist and playwright won three Pulitzer Prizes for literature both in fiction and drama and spent all his life to teach and write literature. The present study aims to analyze Wilder's Our Town and The Skin of Our Teeth to present characteristics of expressionism and symbolism in both plays. Our Town (1938) is a three-act play with almost a bare stage that narrates the story of the fictional American small town of Grover's Corners between 1901 and 1913 in the course of the everyday lives of its citizens and The Skin of Our Teeth (1942) is a three-part allegory about the life of mankind that presents the timeless human condition and dramatizes the Antrobus family of the fictional town of Excelsior, New Jersey. Wilder lived in the 20th century and attempted to be a distinguished writer; therefore, he attacked the dominant trends of his contemporary writings. He innovated new theater techniques such as bare stages, stage managers, addressing audiences or seemingly similar simple themes. In fact, he tries to actualize what is given to humanity in his life and show the simplicity of life.
