Abstract
313 SUMMARY There are many works as source in out libraries to indicate the historical development of Turkish language and explain various aspects of Turkish cultural history. İskender-nâmes takes on important place within these sources. For the first time, İskender-nâme, also called story of İskender is seen at Firdevsi's Şâh-nâme written in rhyme and metric. FirdevsT, while explaining the passed monarches of İran, includes İskender as the last monarch of Keyanis. in Persian literature, poet Nizâm! has dealt with the Story of İskender and written it in rhyme and metric. Emir Hüsrev-i DihlevT's AyTne-i İskender follows his book. Kitâb-i İskender that I have studied between the leaves of 200a-300b, has been written in prose by HamzavT brother of Ahmedl It is assumed that is composed of 20 volumes as a whole. Manuscript which is kept in Turkish Language Association Library with 1 50 order number is 882 pages. There are some missing pages at the beginning and end of the book. Dimensions of Kftâb- i İskender written by HamzavTis 25 (1 9)X1 6 (1 1,5) cm. and there are 13 lines in each page. The book has been written with vowel-points. The work also contains some pieces written in rhyme and metric. This is a religious and legendary story written for the public, it is assumed that the book was written between 859-900 years according to Hegira Calendar. İn my research work, I have done translation of the text. In vocabulary section, I have tried to give words and phrases in alphabetical order with their suffixes used in the story. In language characteristics section, I have examined the available text in respect of grammar taking into account the characteristics of that era. In bibliography section, I have given the studies both done in Turkey and abroad. First ^00 Pages of the text has been prepared as master thesis. The story will take an important place within the other works done about Old Anatolian Turkish after completion of such studies on this. We hope that the studies on the story be completed and presented to the use of language and literature.
