Abstract
'.*04 DC SIIMMAi'v Mustafa Âlî, of Gallipolis (1541-1600) is a literateur and historian who has put out more than seventy works* So far he has been known more for his historical than his literary career. Viewed as a whole his mathnawis are very important for the history of literature. We have here by aim to introduce Tuhfetü'l-uşşâk scholarly circles. The manuscript of Tuhfetü'l-uşşâk was studied based on the singular original text However, we have confined our study to Tuhfetü'l-uşşâk bringing in Mihr ü Mâlı, Câmi'ü'l-buhıır, Riyâzü's-sâlikîn, Gelibolu Şehrengizi, Sadef-i Sad Güher and Subhatü'l-abdâl. in the course of intertextual study. We have studied all the works available in both Turkish and English sources. And presented them chronologically thus while. The poet wrote this mathnawi of his in Şehzade Sehm's palace as a divan scribes. İt is understood that the work was written in 969, but edited in 978 and was fully formed by later addition. The only manuscript of Tuhfetü'l-uşşâk available so far is in Süleymaniye Library, Çelebi Abdullah, call no:277. According to the records on the manuscript kept by library, the manuscript was donated by `El-hac Halil` to the foundation in 1761. Consider the donation date one referres that it was copied earlier. Thus it appears that the same person `El-hac Halîl` owned the copies of Tuhfetü'l- uşşâk and Mihr ü Mâh. Âlî, wrote this mathnawi in the following meter:`fe'ilâtün fe'ilâtün fe'ilün`. There is a lot of editorial problem in the text especially where the meter is not stable. Tuhfetü'l-uşşâk available with us 3039 couplets. Several biographers have referred to Tuhfetü'l-uşşâk and qouted some lines from it. The Tuhfetü'l-uşşâk we have studied has to at least two missing pages. Added the missing couplet Tuhfetü'l-uşşâk has at least 3107.
