SUMMARY In this study, 56 mihrabs were studied. 44 of the mihrabs are in city center of Ankara and remaining mihrabs are in counties and villages. In addition, S other mihrabs samples, whic do not exist today, were included in the study. The mihrabs belong to the period from 12 * to 19 & Centuries, Three of them were remanied from days of Seljuks and others from Ottomans. The mihrab in the court of Alaaddin Mosque from 12 * Century and the mihrab of Boğazkesen Turbe from 13 * Century in Beypazarı attract attention with their simple and double niche structures. In the first one, plaster was applied on the brick, and plaster was applied on the stone in the letter one. The mihrab of Arslanhane Mosque from the end of 13 * Century is made of plaster and faience mosaic. The higher level relief workmanship of the mihrab carries the effects of İran. Beginning from the 14 * Century, always, plaster was used as the material in Ankara's mihrabs, except Cenabi Ahmet Pasha Mosque from 16 * Century. In these samples a molding tecnique originating from Samarra plasters of 9 * Century was apllied. The tecnique showed a development in the Anatolia especially by the 14 * Century. In the ornaments, the shallownes resulting from the molding tecnique are dominant. Samples from 14 * and 15 * Centrales form an importants group among the mihrab in Ankara. A few samples from 16 * Century may be added to this group, wit their similar styles. Smaples from 18 * Centruy (later period) appears wit two different groups: first and second half of the Centruy. In Ankara, the only sample for the mihrabs constructed from stone, is the mihrab of Cenabi Ahmet Pasha Mosque of 1556. The mihrabs in center and peripheres of Ankara are in a complete unity of styles. In many of the mihrabs, same molds were used. This suggests that the mihrabs were constructed by the masters of firms affiliated to a sole center. Samples used in thise study, carries the features of the period to which they belong. In some samples, specific applications are also seen. 326
