Abstract
The use of energy in the most economical way in industrial plants is an actual subject and the exergy analysis based on the second law of the thermodynamics is the important step of the thermodynamic analysis of plants. In this study the exergy analysis of the sugar factory of Erzurum is performed. The plant is partioned into five main and two auxilliary unities and exergy analysis is performed for the whole plant and for the unities separately. For this purpose, a mathematical model of the plant is set up. A computer program in Qbasic is written for the model solution. Energy and exergy band diagrams showing the quantites and locations of energy and exergy losses are drawn. Furthermore, a structural analysis of the plant is performed by means of structural bond coefficents. The effects of some important process variables on the exergy losses and on the coefficient of performance of the plant are investigated by means of simulation studies. It is seen that a decrease of % 26 in exergy losses is possible by adjusting some process variables conveniently.
