Abstract
Polygonum cognatum Meissn. (Madımak) bitkisinin yapraklarının ve Rumex crispus L. (Evelik) bitkisinin yapraklarının ve tohumlarının eter, etanol ve su ekstrelerinin antioksidant aktivitesi, indirgeme gücü, fenolik bileşiklerin, klorofil ve karotenoidlerin toplam miktarı, flavonoidlerin varlığı araştırıldı. İstatistiksel hesaplamalar `SPSS 9.01 for Windows` programı kullanılarak yapıldı. SUMMARY Antioxidant activity, reducing power, amounts of total phenolic compounds, total chlorophylls and carotenoids, presence of flavonoids of ether, ethanol and water extracts of leaves of Polygonum cognatum Meissn. (Madımak) and leaves and seeds of Rumex crispus L. (Evelik) were investigated. Statistical calculations were done by using `SPSS 9.01 for Windows` software. The antioxidant activity, reducing power, presence of flavonoids of extracts were determined according to thiocyanate, Oyaizu methods and cyanidin test, respectively. Amount of total phenolic compounds of each extract was determined by FCR reactive using pyrocatechol as a standard while amounts of total chlorophyll and carotenoid of each extracts were determined spectrophotometrically. Antioxidant activity, reducing power, amounts of total phenolic compounds, chlorophylls and carotenoids of all extracts were increased with increasing amount of extracts. Although there was a correlation between amount of total phenolic compound and reducing power of extracts, not meaningful connection between antioxidant activities and reducing powers of the extracts. Water extract of each plant showed higher antioxidant activity than ether and ethanol extracts of the plant. Although antioxidant activity of water extract of leaves of Polygonum cognatum Meissn. was the highest one, there were no statistically significant differences between this extract and other water extracts (p>0,05). Ether extracts of seeds of Rumex crispus L. and leaves of Polygonum cognatum Meissn. and ethanol extract of leaves of Rumex crispus L. showed the lowest antioxidant activity amoung the plant extracts. Reducing power and amounts of total phenolic compounds of ethanol extracts of seeds of Rumex crispus L. were the highest. However, water extract of leaves of Rumex crispus L. had the lowest reducing power and the ether extract of seeds of Rumex crispus L. had the lowest amount of total phenolic compounds.
