dc.description.abstractm SUMMARY Master of Science Thesis ONION CLASSIFICATION MACHINE, DESIGN AND PROTOTYPE CONSTRUCTION Levent GÜNAYDIN Thrace University The Institute of Natural Sciences Agricultural Machinery Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Bülent EKER. 1996, Page: 51 Jury: Prof. Dr. Bülent EKER (Supervisor) Prof. Dr. Selçuk ARIN Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahattin AKDEMİR In the marketing of agricultural products, homogenity is the aim of standardization. Today all the agricultural products are sold accordance with the international standards. In many countries the same standards apply for domestic market. In the highly competitive international markets of today, it is almost impossible to sell products that faü to meet international standards. This facts requires developing countries to be more careful. In this study the design and construction of an onion classification machine that classifies onion according to the standards of the latest technology and marketing conditions. Onion has been an important product both regionally and nationally. The prototype is constructed at Tekirdağ Industrial and Vocational High School Workshop. For the classification of onion, a single sieve with three different sections is used. The diameters of the holes of first section is 25 mm. The seconds 40 mm. and the third 72 mm. A collection box is located under each section. For those, which do not fall into any box a forth box is located. For sieving ` crank biyel ` mechanism is employed. The system worked with an electric engine and to slow down the motor rotation a redactor is used,12 The onions loaded in a container located over the sieve dropped on the sieve via a slopping surface. Prototype machine is loaded manualley. The machine is tried in two different rotation speeds, 140 rotation / minute and 200 rotation / minute. Sieve angle is 8 and sieve stroke is 44 mm. During performance evaluation, onions in each collection box are measured equatoriaUy and wrong and right size onions in each box are counted.
