Abstract
Heat transfer occurs in majority of industrial and routine use due to either inputting heat to the system or removing heat from the system. Impinging fluid jets is one of the methods of heat transfer which is commonly used in industrial applications such as textile, paper drying, cooling of electronic components, glass tempering, steel and iron production, gas turbine blade cooling, and electronic cooling. In this study, Taguchi experimental design method has been used to investigate the effects of hexagonal nozzle or diffuser-like fin pairs? width, height, longitudinal and lateral distance, and flow velocity on heat transfer and flow characteristics. Initially, the nozzle diameter, h/d distance and velocities have been determined. Nusselt number, pressure coefficient on the x and y axes have been considered as performance characteristics and L18(21*36) orthogonal array has been selected as an experimental plan for the seven parameters discussed above. Considering the three goals simultaneously, 1) optimum results have been obtained by calculating the Nusselt number based on nozzle diameter, 2) cpx and cpy values of the pressure coefficients have been calculated, and 3) related graphs have been plot and interpreted. Two optimized plate geometry has been obtained by evaluating the statistical results of all the experiments and the graphics.
