Abstract
VI ABSTRACT Canatan M.D., Normalisation of the `Time Compressed` and `Dichotic Digit` speech tests, Hacettepe University, Health Sciences Institute MSc Thesis in Audiology and Speech Pathology, Ankara, 2000. `Time Compressed Speech Test` practised as monaural ( stimulus given by means of one ear) and `Dichotic Digit Test` practised as dichotic (different auditory stimulus given simultaneously to the ears) are among the most sensitive tests in determining cortical and hemispheric lesions and which are considered among the tests in which different speech stimulus are being applied and which evaluate central auditory system and necessitate cortical integration. In our study, the normalisation of `Time Compressed Speech Test` and `Dichotic Digit Test` was intended for 80 individuals between 20- 40 years old showing the normal otological, audiological and impedancemetric symptoms were included to the study. Time compressed speech test were applied by 40% ratio to the individuals. Scores obtained by both tests were evaluated as percent (%) and norm criteria were determined for clinical study. As the norm criterion for time compresed speech test for right and left ear was 90%, in dichotic digit test, it was 87% for right ear and 86% for left. Moreover, in the result of dichotic digit test, the advantage of right ear was significantly determined on the individuals. The norm criteria obtained conduct the prediagnostic feature for the pathologic group in respect to the abnormal performance evaluation. Key Terms: Monaural speech test, dichotic speech test, time compressed, dichotic digit, norm criteria.
