Abstract
Lung cancer is one of the leading cause of death because patients with lung cancer often do not develop symptoms until the cancer is in an advanced stage. Interpretation of medical images is often difficult and time consuming, even for experienced physicians. The aid of image analysis and machine learning can make this process easier. The Computer Aided Diagnosing (CAD) system is proposed in this study for detection of lung cancer from the analysis of computed tomography (CT) images. Initially pre-processing is used to remove the noise present in CT image using Gaussian filter then lung region separated of the other regions by thresholding and morphology techniques (filling area). Finally every image created 256 feature matrix (size of every matrix is 32×32. Feature extractions: average, standard deviation, entropy and number of whiteness) and ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System) model developed by us for lung cancer detection. For experimentation of the proposed technique, the CT images collected from Research Hospital of Ataturk University and classification performance for the proposed technique was measured 87.5%.
