Abstract
The two-valued neuron systems are studied to understand learning, memory and retrieval mechanisms. A more recent application of the neural net works are to recover corrupted images sent through a noisy channel. The recovery of corrupted images has great importance for technical applications. Recently, despite real neurons take only two values, models are extended to employ multi- state neurons for their various advantages. Two important examples of multi-state neurons are Q-lsing and ç-Potts neuron systems. In Q-lsing neuron system case the Hamiltonian changes gradually with changing local dynamical variables. The second model, g-state Potts neuron system has very complicated correlation matrix and is shown to have large memory capacity which increases with the increasing number of neuron orientations. In thesis work the large storage capacity of g-state Potts neuron system is used in order to recover corrupted images sent through a noisy channel. Proposed algorithm is shown to work with great success. The effects of noisy channel has eliminated for even relatively large distortion ratios. Keywords Statistical mechanics, neuron systems, ç-state Potts neuron systems, image restoration.
