Abstract
Anahtar Kelimeler: Konut, İç Mekan, Varoluş, Anlam, Feng Shui MeaningEmbedded in Housing Design and FengShuiWhat makes a house a home is the meaning attributed to it. In this study, a semantic analysis of the word `house` is conducted and the ways in which this archetypical meaning may be reascribed to house concept when it is examined as a design subject are pondered; among the likely methods in the meaning-stressed design of house, analogies, metaphors, metonyms and allegories and according to these linguistic metaphors the anachronisms and kitsch were investigated in the context of linguistic approaches whereas the `ectasy` concept was investigated within the context of individual meaning. Yet, owing to the fact that with none of those, a comprehensive fiction of the architect-user-object triangle may be captured and people are to live in stereotypical houses that are built by one source for masses, one of the eastern cultures, the Chinese settlement art Feng Shui which proposes some arguments in these matters were both adressed in this paper. With the slides chosen from the journals on house interior design, the principles were questioned with a participative method using semantic differentiation technique.A house turns into a home only when a meaning as a being is ascribed to the place lived. With the results of this study, it is possible to claim that home finds it meaning with the concepts such as ?identity? and ?oneness?. These findings align with the dualism in which human is regarded both as the center of the universe and as is located in a greater whole which encompasses the human. Therefore, home assumes a meaning for the human only when it makes the humans feel themselves as a part of the whole and actualizes both ?uniqueness? and ?oneness? concepts at the same time and again only in this condition humans can maintain a harmonious synergy with their homes. The thesis rests in Heideggerian holism which stems from the protectionist feelings evolving from the quatrain of earth-sky and man-holy attained in the interiors are more modest, feasible and purchasable way than those provided by coincidence, innovation and particularities sought after today in architecture at the stages of planning-massing. Therefore, our concerns and sorrows about the dissatisfaction from mass-housing today may be unreasonable from the very beginning.Key Words: House, Interior, Existence, Meaning, Feng Shui
