Abstract
Bu çalismada, boraks dekahidrat (Na 2B4O7 ?10H2O) ve magnezyum sülfatheptahidrat (MgSO4 ? 2O) kullanilarak, sulu ortamda, magnezyum borat7Hbilesiklerinin sentezlenmesi kosullari belirlenmistir. 90oC sicaklikta gerçeklestirilentepkimelere B/Mg mol orani, pH, çöktürme süresi ve çöktürme sicakliginin etkileriincelenmistir. Elde edilen çökeltiler üzerinde B, Mg, Na ve XRD analizleri yapilarakolusan bilesiklerin tanimlanmasina çalisilmistir.Yapilan deneysel çalismalarda; 3,60 ve 4,80 en uygun B/Mg mol oranlari olarakbelirlenmis ve bu mol oranlarinda sirasiyla 0,07Na 2O?MgO?1,27B2O3 ?3,51H2O ve0,03Na 2O? MgO? 1,14B2O3 ?2,79H2O bilesiminde amorf ürünler elde edilmistir.Sentezlenen bilesiklerin sudaki çözünürlükleri yüksek oldugu için oda sicakliginda1 saatlik çöktürme süresinde tepkime verimleri oldukça düsük olmakta, ancakçöktürmenin daha uzun sürede (4 saat) ve daha düsük sicaklikta (5ºC) yapilmasidurumumda ürün miktarinda artis saglanarak toplam verim yaklasik %39 degerineyükseltilebilmektedir.Yapilan XRD analizlerinde, ortam pH'inin 9,80'den büyük ve ayni zamandaçöktürme süresinin uzun (48 saat) olmasi durumunda kristalin faz olarakNa2B4O7?5H2O olusumu disinda, safsizlik olarak baska herha ngi bir kristalin fazbelirlenmemistir. Hem tepkime ana ürünü hem de yan ürünlerin sicaklik, süreortam pH' indan etkilenmelerinin yaninda suda çözünürlük özelliklerinden ötürü,ayni kosullarda bile, tekrarlanabilir sonuçlarin elde edilmesi oldukça zorolmaktadir.Ürünler oldukça ince tane boyunda olup, B/Mg mol oraninin 3,60 oldugu kosuldasentezlenen ürünün tümü 80 µm'nin, B/Mg mol oraninin 4,80 oldugu kosulda isesentezlenen ürünün tümü 30 µm'nin altindadir. Ürünlerin gevsek yigin yogunluklari0,10-0,18 g/cm3, siki yigin yogunluklari ise 0,16-0,25 g/cm3 degerleri arasindadegismektedir.Anahtar Sözcükler: Magnezyum borat, magnezyum borat hidrat, sentezlemeDanisman: Prof.Dr. Ismail GIRGIN, Hacettepe Üniversitesi, Maden MühendisligiBölümü Cevher Hazirlama Anabilim Dalii In this work, synthesis conditions of magnesium borate compounds in aqueousmedium from borax decahydrate (Na2B4O7 ? 10H2O) and magnesium sulphateheptahydrate (MgSO4 ? 2O) were determined. The effects of B/Mg mole ratio, pH,7Hprecipitation time and precipitation temperature on the reaction performed at 90oCwere examined. Compounds formed were identified by B, Mg, Na and XRDanalyses. In the experimental work, 3.60 and 4.80 were determined as optimum B/Mg moleratios and at these mole ratios amorphous 0.07Na 2 O?MgO? 1.27B2O3? 3.51H2O and0.03Na 2O? MgO? 1.14B2O3 ?2.79H2O were obtained respectively. As the watersolubilities of the compounds synthesized were high, the recoveries at 1 hourprecipitation time were low but, increased of precipitation time (4 hours) andlowering the temperature (5ºC) increased the amount of the product which broughtthe total recovery value to %39.In the XRD analyses of the products, no crystalline phases as impurities weredetected except Na2B4O7 ? 2O which was formed at pH values above 9.80 with5Hlong precipitation times (48 hours). As both the main reaction product and thepossible side products are severly affected from temperature, time, medium pHand due to their solubilities in water, even under the same conditions, reproducibleresults were difficult to obtain. The synthesized products were fine sized, the one synthesized at B/Mg mole ratioof 3.60 all below 80 µm and the other synthesized at B/Mg mole ratio of 4.80 allbelow 30 µm. The loose and packed bulk densities of the products changebetween 0.10-0.18 g/cm3 and 0.16-0.25 g/cm3, respectively. Keywords: Magnesium borate, magnesium borate hydrate, synthesisAdvisor: Prof.Dr. Ismail GIRGIN, Hacettepe University, Mining EngineeringDepartment, Mineral Processing Sectionii
