Abstract
At the present time, fiber optic cables are generally used in the communication sector. In our country, there are only 324 thousand km of fiber cables including 256 thousand km in Turk Telekom operators and 68 thousand km in other operators. These cables, which have a life span of 20 years, need to be change over the time. Cables drawn in 1998 and earlier have being replaced in course of the time, while cables that are out of use are reserved for use. The cables that are out of use have divided into scrap. An average of 15 thousand km of cable is allocated to scrap annually. Approximately 5 Kg kevlar is becoming waste from 1 km cable. Since waste Kevlar are not a separate area of use, they cannot be re-acquired to the economy. The waste of kevlar has been considered to be used in road concretes for the purpose of economic contribution and prevention of destruction to nature. In this study, concrete pavements produced with kevlar were investigated. For this purpose, water / cement ratio (0.40, 0.45, 0.50), silica fume (% 0, 5, 10 cement), kevlar (0 gr/m3, 500 gr/m3, 1000 gr/m3) and polypropylene fiber (0 gr/m3, 500 gr/m3, 1000 gr/m3) were determined the mixture variables The Taguchi method was used for the design of the experiment, the elasticity modulus and optimum mixture variables giving the maximum flexural and compressive strength for 28 days were determined. As a result of the experiments and observations, it was determined that the addition of kevlar material (500 gr/m3) to the concrete has positive effects on the compressive, flexural strength and modulus of elasticity. Since polypropylene fibers and Kevlar have been tried together in experiments, it was foreseen that this ratio will increase with the usage of kevlar only. From the results, it was observed that by adding Kevlar which is a waste to the concrete material can be brought to the economy.
