Abstract
In this thesis, a new method is proposed for the packed-bed adsorption columns to determine the film and particle mass transfer coefficients by using non-equilibrium modeling approach under the different operating conditions. This method is applied for the multi-component adsorption proses at packed-bed adsorption columns. The scope of this work is to determine the mass transfer resistances more accurately using a mathematical modeling via non-equilibrium approach reflecting the real, observed process conditions in fixed bed columns. Breakthrough curves are simulated by using the solution of the general rate model in a fast and different way. The model outcomes is compared with the experimental results and homogeneous diffusion coefficient is detemined. Therefore, an important evaluation and calculation method was developed to obtain the industrially important design parameters.Another advantage of the model used is to combine partial differential equations of column and particle with Langmuir isotherm, reducing them to a single equation and to be solved numerically by the method of finite differences. Mathematical solution methodology is simplified by using the Runge-Kutta algorithm for the simulations. Solving the equations numerically implicit method has been used so as to prevent the problems such as instability and convergence.
