Abstract
Ill ABSTRACT Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and normal children were compared on their performance on automatic and controlled attention as conceived by the limited capacity approach. Performance was assessed via a computerized experiment consisting of three conditions which are automatic, controlled, and perceptual-controlled attention. Groups and experimental conditions were compared through analysis of variance. Results showed that ADHD children performed worse than normals in either conditions. The slope of ADHD children's performance on perceptual- controlled attention was steeper than that of normals, but not sufficient to amount to an interaction effect. However, mean reaction time of ADHD children is shorter than that of normals, which implies that ADHD children were faster. On the other hand, there was no significant relationship between the performance and mean reaction time of ADHD children and their scores on WISC-R and Bender-Gestalt test. Results were discussed in the light of current literature. The need for further research with different experimental designs and samples were emphasized.
