The subject of the thesis which is a monographic study is about an illustratedcopy of ZaJername preserved in the Turkish Islamic Arts Museum today (TiEMNo.1964). The Timurid ZaJername manuscripts were historical texts that were writtenby different authors, all being concentrated on the life, the expeditions and the victoriesof Emir Timur, founder of the Timurid Empire. The copies of the work which wasbased upon the life of Emir Timur was kept on to be produced during the Safavid periodlikewise the Timurid antecedents, and some of those works were even illustrated.Among those works three Timurid and seven Safavid illustrated copies are extant today. The TiEM ZaJername which was copied in 1486 according to its colophon, ranks as thethird and the last one among other Timurid illustrated ZaJername copies. However, thestylistic peculiarities of the ten illustrations found in the manuscript have not beenattributed neither to a single period, a date nor a provenance; thus, various argumentswere suggested about those pictures. Throughout the study we will try to shed somelight on the different arguments of the TiEM ZaJername and we will attempt to addnew discourses to them; we will analyse the stylistic atrributes and the iconographicprogram of the pictures of the manuscript, and we will try to understand what kind of arole the TiEM ZaJername assumed among the other illustrated copies of the ZaJernametext. Keywords: ZaJername, arts of the book of the Timurid period, arts of the book of theSafavid period, Timurid historiography, illustrated historical texts.
