Abstract
The objective of this thesis is to study in what ways the emigrants who had settled down Güzelyurt county of Aksaray, adjusted to the region they accommodated after Lausanne Convention. Participant observation and in-depth interviewing methods were used to supply data about the subject. This study surveyed the facts preventing the emigrants to have social relations with inhabitants of the region they accommodated and the factors which abolish these handicaps after forced migration. Thus the study has focused on variables such as spatial length and difference, demographic alteration, differences of the traditions, establishment of kinship relations. Some factors like traditional discrepancies, two different living spaces and the fact that emigrants had a greater population than the inhabitants after the exchange, prevented the emigrants to have social interactions for a long period. Later on, because the emigrants migrated outside the county, population advantage turned in favor of the inhabitants. This situation forced the emigrants to be adjusted into the dominant population. Cultural interaction is mutual but after this interaction it is not always possible for acculturation process to be equal for both sides. Considering from this point of view, it can be assumed that the emigrants are the more changing side. Besides, it can even be said that the tradition and customs of those two societies are alike today; this cultured conformity may be decomposed into the competitive atmosphere of economy and politics. The political and economical competitive domain has been donating itself as the legal ground for both sides to express the othering attitudes that they have been bearing towards each other.
