Abstract
In this study, hourly dynamic cooling load capacities (heat gain) of a sample building according to radiant time series (RTS) method are determined by using Meteorological Data such as solar radiation, outside air temperature and wind speed along the years (1997-2008). Antalya, Konya, Mersin, Muğla and Şanlıurfa provinces of Turkey that are the most promising from the point of the solar energy potential are preferred for the analysis. Thermodynamic analysis of an air to air heat pump system designed according to the real vapor compressed refrigeration cycle is done. It is assessed that the electric energy consumption of the compressor is supposedly met from clean energy sources such as solar energy (photovoltaic panels) and wind energy depending on different efficiencies. Compressor power consumption of the cooling requirement and coefficient of performance are hourly computed by a developed in-house MATLAB program for the cooling system working with various refrigerants (R134a, R407c and R410a) under the assumed conditions of pressure losses, isentropic efficiency, 5 C superheated at evaporator, 5 C subcooled at condenser, evaporator temperatures in the range of (-5 C, 0 C and 5 C) and condenser temperatures such as 10 C, 15 C and 20 C higher than the outside ambient air temperature. In addition, the calculations are done by using the data such as solar radiation and outside temperature obtained from the local measurement station at Selcuk University. The meeting of the electric energy demand of the sample building including partially cooling need from the renewable energy is also investigated. In order to meet the electric energy demand of the cooling system, a hybrid combination of photovoltaic panels (PVs) and/or wind turbines (WTs) depending the efficiency ranges of 17%-20% of PV and 30% of the WT is used since the solar and wind energy system supports and balances each other through the day. It is seen from the evaluation of the results that the proposed system driven by hybrid energy can successfully be operated for the chosen provinces.
