Abstract
Calixarenes with suitable groups are highly specific ligands and are compounds with increased potential as a sensor. Intramolecular cavities of calixarenes formed by the phenolic rings, can host complementary cations, anions, and neutral molecules especially. In this study, calix[4]arene compounds bearing naphthalimide groups were synthesized. After the synthesis of p-tert-butyl calix[4]arene using p-tert-butyl phenol as the starting material, p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene (1) was converted to diester derivative in the presence of methylbromoacetate and K2CO3 in dry acetone. The derivative of amide was obtained by reacting the diester-derivatized of calix[4]aren with the tris (2-aminoethyl) amine compound. This compound was reacted with 4-Bromo-1,8-naphthalic anhydride to give compound 4 and 5. Synthesized naphthalimide derivatives of calix[4]arene were identified by using spectroscopy methods (FTIR, 1H NMR). Fluorescence properties of these compounds were examined towards different metal cations (Na+, Li+, Ca+2, Mg+2, Cu+2, Co+2, Ni+2, Zn+2, Al+3, Fe+3) and anions (F-, Cl-, Br-, H2PO4-, NO3-, I- ve HSO4-, CH3COO-) by using UV, NMR and fluorescence spectroscopic techniques. The results obtained with these studies will contribute to the literature.
