Abstract
Bu çalışma İngilizce altyazılı video materyalinin üst seviye İngilizce öğrencilerinin dinlediğini anlama becerisi üzerindeki etkisini incelemek amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Birinci bölümde çalışmanın amacı, kapsamı ve sınırlılıkları verilmiş ve bilindik dinlediğini anlama egzersizlerinin neden geçersiz kaldığı tartışılmıştır. ikinci bölümde daha önce yapılmış benzer çalışmalarda hakkında genel bilgi verilmiş, ve diğer yazarların dinlediğini anlama konusundaki görüşleri sunulmuştur. Üçüncü bölümde Selçuk Üniversitesi Eğirim Fakültesi İngiliz Dili Eğitimi bölümü öğrencilerine uygulanan anketin sonuçlan verilmiştir. Aynı zamanda çalışmada kullanılan materyal tanıtılıp, çalışma için neden bir belgesel kullanıldığı açıklanmıştır. Dördüncü bölüm genel kavrama ve kelime hatırlama alt-ölçeklerinde uygulanan iki testin istatistik verilerini vermektedir. Bu bölüm aynı zamanda testlerden alınan basan oranlarını da karşılaştırmaktadır. Beşinci bölüm çalışmanın meydana gelme sürecinin özetlemekte ve araştırmacılara ve eğitimcilere tavsiyeleri içermektedir. Bu çalışmanın dört eki vardır. Ek A İngilizce ve Türkçe olarak anket sorularını içermektedir. Ek B Test 1 'in sorularını içermektedir. Ek C Test 2'nin sorularını içermektedir. Ek D ilerde eğitimciler tarafindan faydalanılması amacıyla belgeselin metnim içermektedir. vı This study was designed to examine the effects of closed-captioned video on the listening comprehension of advanced EFL students. In the first chapter, the aim, scope and limitations of the study are presented and why conventional listening comprehension exercises have been rendered obsolete is discussed. In the second chapter, a general information on previous similar studies is given along with other authors' views on listening comprehensioa In third chapter is given statistics gathered from the questionnaire applied on the first-year students of ELT Department, Faculty of Education, University of Selçuk. Our material is introduced and why a documentary was used is explained. The fourth chapter reveals the statistical outcome of the two tests applied on the subscales of general comprehension and spotting of specific words. This chapter also compares success rates of the tests. The fifth chapter summarises the whole process of the research and includes recommendations to researchers and educators. This study has four appendices. Appendix A contains the questions of the questionnaire both in English and Turkish. Appendix B contains questions of Test 1. Appendix C contains questions of Test 2. Appendix D contains the video script of the material for future use by educators.
