Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine self-compassion levels of university students (low, medium, high) the relation between depression, anxiety and stress levels with regard to gender, class, department and socioeconomic variables. The scope of this study is the students of Selçuk University in 2007-2008 academic year. The sampling of the research is done by selecting 240 girls and 283 boys - totally 523 students - from different faculties of Selçuk University with random sampling method. In the research ?Personal Inquiry Form?, Self-Compassion Scale, adapted by Deniz, Kesici and Sümer (2008), for measuring the level of self-compassion and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS), adapted by Akın and Çetin (2007), have been applied. The data obtained from the research have been analyzed by SSPS WINDOWS program. The whole Tamhane and LSD tests are used for data analysis, frequency, average, t-test and double comparison. When the results of the research are examined it is found that for the depression, anxiety and stress levels between the students with low, medium and high self-compassion levels, the students with low and medium self-compassion have more depression, anxiety and stress levels than the students with high self-compassion.It has been found to be no significant differentiation between the levels of depression, anxiety and stres with regard to the gender variable of the university students. It has been found to be no significant differentiation between the levels of depression, anxiety and stres with regard to the class level of the university students. It has been established that there exists dissimilarity between depression, anxiety, and stress levels of university students with regard to the departments the study. It has also been determined that depression and anxiety levels of the university students decrease as the socioeconomic levels of the families increase, but that there is no significant differentiation between the stress levels of the university students with regard to the socioeconomic levels of their families.
