Abstract
ABSTRACT The subject of this study is `From Armistice to the Foundation of Republic (from October 30 th, 1918-to October 29 th 1923) Social, Economic and Demographic Structure of Minorities and Their Relations with Foreign States` The study comprises of four chapters. In the first chapter, foreign connections, activities and status under the Ottoman administration of the Anatolian Greeks, Armenians and Jews, before the Armistice, are studied. In this chapter, social, economic and demographic conditions of the minorities in the Ottoman State are also examined in terms of the documents and particularly the activities made against the Ottoman State the Greek - Orthodox Patriarchade of Phanar are indicated. In the Second chapter, from the Moudros Armistice (October 30 th, 1918) to the occupation of İzmir (May 15 th, 1919), the activites of the Anatolian Greek, Armenians and Jews are expressed in details with the examination of the related archives and serious studies. The decisions made before the Paris Peace Conference, beginning in January 18 th, 1919, and the decisions made at this conference by the attempts and demands of the minorities, living in the Ottoman State, and the impacts and results of those decisions upon Turkish Nation are examined. In the third chapter, in the course of time from the occupation of İzmir (May 15 th, 1919) until the liberation (Sept. 9 th, 1922) the activities of the Anatolian Greeks, Armenians and Jews, their relations with the Allied States, and particularly the relations of Anatolian Greeks with Greece and those of Armenians with France and the results of these relations against Ottoman State are all examined depending on the related documents. In this chapter, it is shown that, especially in Western Anatolia and Thrace, how Anatolian Greeks and Greek armies of occupation were united to conduct genocide and a host of atrocities against Turkish Nation. The documents terrifyingly give the evidenceof the atrocities made by the Armenian and the French in Maraş, Urfa, Aymtap and particularly in Adana and its environments. In the forth chapter of the study, after the glorious end of the National Struggle the Armistice of Mudanya is made and later at the Lausanne Peace Conference, the minorities issue came into existence. Before and during this conference, Anatolian Greeks and Armenians made their appeals; however these were never realized at this conference. Finally, the minorities got an international proction status in newly fontet republic of Turkey.
