Abstract
In this thesis, Gaziantep Municipal Solid Waste Power Plant (GMSWPP) is assessed and modeled in ASPEN Plus engineering software in terms of thermodynamic and thermoeconomic analyses considering the actual operating data. This thesis comprises of an extensive study when compared to other studies in this field. The novelty of the thesis can be one of the first studies, in which renewable and sustainable waste heat recovery models are designed and developed utilizing the actual operating data of an existing solid waste power plant. The models which are gas turbine (Model 1), organic Rankine (Model 2), Kalina (Model 3), gas turbine-organic Rankine (Model 4) and gas turbine-Kalina cycles (Model 5) are analyzed thermodynamically and thermoeconomically by using EES software. Moreover, originality of the thesis is also a fact that it contains an optimization study for all models, which is conducted based on the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithms (NSGA-II) method in MATLAB environment. Therefore, as a result of the thesis, it is conducted that the models can be adapted to all power plants from the point of a waste-to-energy approach for further developments. This can be expressed as another original aspect of the thesis.
