Abstract
ABSTRACT A FOCUS ON THE ATTITUDES OF THE INSTRUCTORS AND THE STUDENTS TOWARDS LANGUAGE LABS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GAZİANTEP S UMMAK, Elçin M. A. in English Language Teaching Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdal Ceyhan June, 1992, 128 pages This study was designed to identify the difference or similarity in the attitudes of the instructors and the students towards the language labs in prep-school at the University of Gaziantep. Gaziantep University was selected as the setting, the prep-school students, freshman students and the instructors were the subjects of the study. As a data collection tool, a questionnaire was prepared and administered to the subjects. The percentages of the results have been illustrated in the tables and the results have been tested by the non-parametric test of significance, chi square.Di ff erence or similarity between the groups has been identified. IllThe main purpose of the study was to clarify the differing views of the two groups and to identify in what ways the language labs in prep-school are effective or unef feet ive. Findings have indicated that both groups are not satisfied with the laboratory sessions, laboratory hardware and software although they have thought language laboratories are useful teaching aids. In the light of the findings further recommendations have been presented and it is hoped that this study would help in the improvement of the effectiveness ot the language laboratories in prep- school.
