Abstract
Among the other ophiolite melanges, Eldivan ophiolite which internal structure is partially protected, observing at Central Anatolia exposed around Cankiri area is an oceanic lithosphere. Ophiolitic rock units around the area was mapped on previous studies as melange due to the internal structural complexity.ASTER satellite image has a spectral ranges covering as VNIR (visible-near infrared, 520-860 nm.), SWIR (short wave infrared, 1600-2430 nm.) and TIR (thermal infrared, 8125-11650 nm.) and has a spatial resolution of 15, 30, 90 m. respectively. Those 14 bands of ASTER data are mostly used for geological and mineral research studies.Ultramafic rock units which belong to oceanic lithosphere, especially peridotites are important for economical chromite mineralizations. Here in this study, it is objected to discriminate those rock units by their thermal spectral properties using ASTER satellite images. As a result of algoritms developed according to the ultramafic rocks and thier secondary products, type of rocks rich in olivine were clearly identified. Those extracted rock units checked with groundtruth and petrographical determinations of collected samples. While comparing image analyses results with regional geology, it is observed that the peridotite rocks rich in olivine was mapped as melange. Keywords: Eldivan Ophiolite, Peridotite, Olivine, ASTER, Thermal Spectral Analysis
