Abstract
In this study, a procedure for the preconcentration and separation of copper(II) ions from environmental samples using a column filled with functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs-COOH) has been suggested. Effects of pH, amount of Cu(II), amount of MWNTs-COOH, concentration and volume of elution solution, flow rate of sample and elution solution and sample volume on the recovery of the Cu(II) were investigated. pH is the most significant factors that affect the preconcentration of Cu(II). The preconcentration factor for preconcentration procedure was obtained as 50. The linear range was 1?5mg L-1 (R2= 0.999). Under the optimized experimental conditions, the detection limit (3s) of the proposed method followed by FAAS was found to be 0.27µg L-1. The relative standard deviation (RSD) for 10 replicate measurements of 50 and 100µg L?1 Cu(II) was 2.39% and 0.98%, respectively. Accuracy of method was controlled by certified reference material, BCR-320R. The response surface methodology was successfully applied to the determination of Cu(II) in different water samples and mussel samples, and the results obtained were in good agreement with the certified values.
