Abstract
Anahtar Kelimeler: Fen ve Teknoloji Öğretimi, Fen ve Teknoloji Okuryazarlığı, Bilimin Doğası, Bilimsel İçerik Bilgisi, Fen-Teknoloji-Toplum. this research, second step elementary students? scientific literacy level was tried to be determined by using survey method. With the help of the datas obtained from application of the TBSL scale, FTO (Scientific Literacy) level and its? subscales Nature of Science (NOS), Science Content Knowledge (SCK) and Science-Technology-Society (STS) levels were analyzed together. Besides this analyze, it was also targeted to come out that the difference between all these levels mentioned above were statistically significant or not with respect to certain demographical variables held in the research, if so, which scales had significant differences between each other. Lastly, the relationship between each subscales and the relationship between subscales and FTO were viewed. In the research, TFTT (Adaptated TBSL) was used as a scale. Firstly, statements in the scale were reviewed according to their appropriateness for the elementary students? cognitive proficiences, science content of prevailing elementary science education program and both item difficulty and item distinctiveness indexes, respectively. Application of the test was carried out in nine elementary school located in İzmit, a province of Turkey. Datas were obtained from 648 students enrolled in these schools. At the end of the research, it is concluded that students? FTO and its subscales levels are hardly enough compared to the proficiency level that had been pointed out before the application of the test. As an another finding, the subscale in which students most succeed was SCK and most failed was NOS. Furthermore, it is also concluded that however six and seven grades student? FTO levels are not distinct significantly from each other, students? in the eighth grades have better FTO level than those grades. Finally, as well as the level of general academic achievement and level of technological infrastructure as school based variables, the condition of taking any special courses as a student based variable, both causes a significant difference on the students? FTO level. Contrary to this finding, neither FTO nor its subscales levels don?t differ from each other with respect to gender. Keywords: Science and Technology Education, Scientific Literacy, Nature of Science, Scientific Content Knowledge, Science-Technology-Society.
