Sâbit bin Kurra`nın hayatı ve eserleri

Abstract

Harran şehri jeopolitik konumu itibariyle tarihte pek çok devletin idaresi altında bulunmuştur. Anadolu ile Mezopotamya arasında bir köprü konumunda olan Harran, stratejik öneminin yanı sıra dil, kültür ve medeniyetlerin buluştuğu bir şehirdir. Harran şehrini asıl önemli kılan, bilim ve kültür şehri olmasıdır. Harran Okulu tarihte matematik, geometri, astronomi ve tıp alanında önemli bir yere sahiptir. Bu okulda pek çok ilim adamı yetişmiştir. Bu âlimlerden biri de Sâbit bin Kurra olmuştur.Sâbit bin Kurra, Batıdaki Grek kültürüne ait eserleri tercüme eden, Arapça'yı ve Yunanca'yı iyi derecede bilen, kendi zamanının en aktif mütercimlerinden biridir. Mantık konusunda Müslümanların itimat ettiği ender bir kişi olan Sâbit, tercüme ve teliflerinde önemli yorumlar ve önermeler yapan Harran Okulu'na mensup bir bilim adamıdır. Sabit bin Kurra, Sabiilik dinine mensuptur. Bir süre sarraflık yapan Sâbit, Beni Musa oğullarından Muhammed bin Musa tarafından ikna edilip, Bağdat'a götürülmüştür. Sabiilerin arasında astronomi alanında ilk eser veren kişidir. Bunun yanında Tıp, Matematik, mantık, Tarih, Dil ve Edebiyat, Mekanik ve Fizik, Musiki vb. pek çok alanda eserler yazmıştır.
