Abstract
In this study, the daily egg production method (DEPM) was used for estimating spawning stock biomass of European anchovy Engraulis encrasicolus (Linnaeus, 1758) in Edremit Bay (Aegean Sea). Application was carried out in July 2010. The estimation of the different parameters needed for the application of the model are obtained from the adult and egg sampling on sea.Anchovy eggs were collected by WP2 model vertical plankton net at 23 stations. Eggs were classified into the each developmental stage and their ages were calculated on the basis of sea water temperatures to determine daily egg production (P0). Adult fish samples were captured by boat seine and trawl for measurement of batch fecundity and daily spawning fraction. The biomass parameters; P0, 36.52 eggs/m²; W, 10.78 g; R, 0.61; F, 4344.68 eggs; S, 0.18 were determined. Consequently the spawning biomass estimate was 403.9 metric ton in Edremit Bay.
