Abstract
ABSTRACT The study is comprised of five chaptei -s. Chapter I introduces the purpose and the method of the study. Chapter II provides definitions, related to concepts such as communication, the communicative approach and communicative competence, in order to clarify the terms and note the meanings in which they should be considered for the purposes of the study, communicative syllabus types have also been defined and their contribution to language teaching have been emphasized. Chapter III, in which the related literature is reviewed, presents information about the background and objectives of Communicative Language Teaching as well as providing a coherent picture of the theoretical assumptions related to various interpretations of the communicative approach to language teaching. It also deals with significant factors in language teaching, such at> communicative syllabuses, teacher, learner, communicative teaching activities, and instructional materials, and presents the main procedures in CüMuunluative Lau&ua.ge Teaching. In Chapter IV, the application of the principles of the communicative approach fox` a duration of three months in an EFL class has been introduced, and the data obtained from the research has been analyzed. Moreover, a teaching plan for teaching a specific language function is provided. In the final chapter the significant conclusions of the study and seme practical suggestions have been presented.
