Abstract

SUMMARY The aim of this study is to show the appearance of riding sports in Turkish Cultural history, to determine the purposes in playing of such games and to make clear the ones which had already been or at the point of being a part of history. Furthermore, another purpose is to find out the localities where the ones that live up to now are being played and the rules of these games. This study has been realized by investigation of written and living references. It is observed that some of these written sources about the subject are in disag reement with each other in our country. The living refe rences showed that there are four different riding sports which have not mentioned in written references before. In conclusion; a) The role of warrior force affect is greater than primary religion effects on the existence of riding sports. b) Geographic factors have an important role on the appearance of riding sports. Riding steppe culture has also arisen by this way. c) It is observed that the rules of these sports are calmed down by migrations and by the acceptence of new religions.211 d)The Turkish tradition of public cebelration and maurnin ceremonies have an important role in distribution and development of riding sports. e)it is known that there was an equality between man and woman in respect to playing conditions of sorae kind of Turkish riding sports. f)Since we have not protected our own culture eno- ugh, riding sports which are the products of this culture had been recived by other nations and called by different names as if their own çultural products. g)Most of riding sports are living in many Turkish Republies, today. h) But in our country, most of these had been a part of history and some of then tries to l ive in very diffi- cult conditions. ı) This living riding sports in Turkey aren't sup- ported enough by Goverment.
