Abstract
In this thesis, an instrumentation system has been devised for measuring theelectrical parameters, such as the electrical conductivity and the relative permittivity, ofbone and isolated skeletal muscle over the frequency range of 1 kHz to I MHz.Bone specimens with and without bone marrow are tested using 3M-Littmann2325VP 6,25 cm2 AI-Spot ECG-Electrodes. For testing the skeletal muscle from sheepsand chickens, a cylindrical plexiglas !est cell is designed for four electrode measurementtechnique to avoid electrode polarization errors. All measurements are performed on theHP-4284 A LCR-Meter and a special preamplifier is built for sample connection in thetrue four electrode mode. The collected data are used then for drawing the graph of the dielectricpermittivity and the electrical conductivity as a function of frequency from 1 kHz to IMHz. The results of these measurements show that the electrical and dielectric propertiesof bone and skeletal muscle are fi'equency dependent, as well as direction dependent.
