Abstract
In this thesis, applications and new developments in cardiac pacingare presented. In the first chapter, the heart and specificly rate and rhythm, whichare the 1110St important pOints in considering the ECG for determiningwhether cardiac pacing is required, are studied .. _ In the second chapter, pulse generator types, power sources, leadsand electrodes of cardiac pacemakers, their cOlnparisons and new applicationsare discussed.Pacemaker implantation techniques, reuse of cardiac pulse generators, infection after implantation and a new method for transvenouslead explantation are handled in the third chapter. The follovving chapter gives statistical information about the implantedcardiac pacemakers in the world and Turkey, and their follow-upprocedures frOln the point of view of tinling, method and used instruments. If there is a problem found in the follow-up, appropriate troubleshootingand correction procedures must be done. These are presented inthe fifth chapter. The following three chapters comprise new developnli~nts which arerate-responsive and antitachycardia pacemaker types and automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator.
