The role of the Istanbul Stock Exchange as a source of financing in the quest for global integration

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, Türkiye'nin batılılaşma sürecinde alternatif bir enstrüman olarak sermaye piyasalarının gelişimi ve özellikle de İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsasının hem ülke ekonomisine hem de yabancı sermayeye dahil olma çabasındaki rolü üzerine yoğunlaşılmıştır. Tezin birinci bölümü, küreselleşmeye uyum kararının arkasında yatan motive edici faktörler ve İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsasının kuruluşuyla birlikte yerli sermaye ve yabancı sermaye arasındaki ilişkinin finansal ve ekonomik gelişmeye etkisinin analizini içermektedir. İkinci bölümde ise, İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsasının ulusal ekonomiye katkısı, yabancı yatırımcıların İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsasındaki işlevi ile kıyaslamalı olarak ele alınacaktır.

This study reviews the role of the Istanbul Stock Exchange as an instrument to host capital entry looking at the issue both from the host country and foreign capital perspectives. In particular, it analyzes the motivating factors behind the decision to internationalize, and the subsequent relations between local versus foreign capital explained along with the effects on financial development with the establishment of the İstanbul Stock Exchange in the first section. The next section is devoted to the case of the İstanbul Stock Exchange and the role of the stock exchange in the national economy and comparison to its peers as well as underlining attempt to define the role of foreign investors in the İstanbul Stock Exchange.
