Project accounting system a proposal for Turkish contractors

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to propose and account:ing system toTurkish contracting conpanies, so that they set up the account:ing systemon their projects according to the technical speafications of job. It isnecessary to build up a control system on the projects :in order to obtainscne financial infornation from accounting systems. In this thesis, it isalso submitted how such a control system o~rates and its relationshipwith the account:ing system on fundarrental basis.The acknowledgements about the general and accolllting structuresof Turkish contract:ing conpanies that are rrentioned in the follONingchapters of this work, are obtained from the projects and head offices ofSezai TUrkel;;-Fevzi Akkaya Cons. Co. and Enka Cons. Co. These ~ conpaniesare the lead:ing Turkish contractors in terms of the contract value of theirongo:ing and conpleted projects in Turkey and foreign collltries. Moreover,sorre project managers of these conpanies were :interviewed to get theirexpectations from accounting systems, and it is e}{plained that the :incarreand cost figures of all :inportant ~rks of projects should be got seperatelyfrom accounting systerrs. Obviously, it is required in order to make noreproper desicions on directing projects.Sezai 'lUrkel;;-Fevzi Akkaya has organized a work team for adopt:ingsuch control and accounting systems to the existing projects and the authorwas also participated in this team as a responsible person for theapplication of project accounting system on the projects.
