Analysis of prime time programs of four private television stations in turkey: From the view point of violence, and sex stereotyping

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze top four private television stations in Turkeyfrom two aspects, which were determined by the literature review of television'seffects on adults. These aspects were; 1) Violence and, 2) Sex stereotyping content ofprime time broadcastings on television.Firstly, the one week prime time broadcastings of top four private televisionstations recorded. Then; these recorded broadcastings were analyzed according toviolence and sex stereotyping criteria which were created based on the relatedliterature review. Lastly; the findings of the research was listed and analyses wasdone with respect to frequencies of the findings for violence and sex stereotypingseparately.At the end; the findings of this study demonstrated that; the violence and sexstereotyping content of Turkish private television stations was very huge both inamount and the effect.
