Abstract
ABSTRACT An Ontological Analysis of the OughfcTowards an Ethics of Being by Özgür Aktok The main concern of this thesis is to formulate a question using Heidegger's distinction between the categories of `ontical` and `ontological` in order to analyze the phenomenon of obligation from an ontological point of view. In this context, the thesis examines the relationship between Being and obligation in two ways. First, with respect to the history of metaphysics in which two interpretations of Being and the Ought mark two crucial turning points that determine the fate of western thinking. Second, with respect to the everyday existence in that these interpretations determine our relationship to worldly beings. Plato's interpretation of Being as agathon gives rise to the birth of the Ought, and in this way, the first covering up of the ontological difference between Being and entities takes place. The second covering up of the ontological difference happens when modern thought reinterprets Being and obligation by introducing the subject- object duality, which gives rise to the deontic ought and the is-ought duality. The aim of the thesis can be summarized in two steps: First to destruct the latter interpretation, which covers up the former, and to show how the Ought-as-such is the origin of the deontic ought. Second, also to destruct the former interpretation, which covers up its own origin, which is Being. The second step of the ontological analysis shows how the Ought-as-such originates from Being itself as a consequence of an ontical interpretation of it. IV
