Abstract
Clinical and mycological investigations were conducted for the subjects before, immediately after and two weeks after the termination of the antifun gal therapy. Subjects who were fitted with new dentures were also investigated clini cally and mycologically, before and 4 weeks after receiving their new dentu res. No statistically significant relationship was found between denture sto matitis and any of age, sex, duration of denture usage, frequency of denture brushing, overnight denture wearing or pH level of saliva. There was however, a statistically significant relationship between den ture stomatitis and both denture hygiene and smoking habits. The relationship between degree of Candidal colonization and age, sex, overnight denture wearing, frequency of denture brushing, duration of denture usage was not statistically meaningful. However a significant relationship was found between degree of Candidal colonization and both denture hygiene and saliva pH level. It was found that for generalized simple denture stomatitis, treatment with Fluconazole plus Chlorhexidine resulted in better improvement of pala tal inflamation than that by Fluconazole alone or by fitting new dentures without medication. The beneficial effects of prosthetic treatment were primarily seen in patients with localized simple denture stomatitis. However fitting new dentures did not significantly reduce inflammation in patients with generalized simple denture stomatitis.Clinical and mycological investigations were conducted for the subjects before, immediately after and two weeks after the termination of the antifun gal therapy.
