Abstract
It is well known fact that tennis is a recreational as well as a competitivesport. It is also apparent that in teaching of tennis skills, no definite methodologyis followed and as a result of this some contradictions in teaching can be seenjust as it seen in any other sport. Our purpose is to compare intensive andperiodic traning methods in acquiring tennis skills according to evalution ofperformances and metabolic tests. We tested the effects of the two teachingmethods of tennis. In this study we included 16 male students from the freshmen class of theschool of PhYSical Education and Sports whl had never played tennis. Theaverage of the group was 20.2 +- 0.66, height 180.6 +- 4.75, weight 71.1 +- 6.71max V02 51.1 +- 6.17. One group performed massed training while the othertrained periodically. Each group consisted of eight students.A new training method was developed using motor skill classificationtables of Gentile et.al. In both groups this model applied first using the wall thenthe full court. In the group receiving massed training 500 hits were performed atonce, the other group had three rest periods between hits. The study wascompleted in four month periods lasting a total of two years and consisting of26000 hits per subject. The subject were analyzed using the Hewitt test.As a result the group receiving distributed training had a higer total Hewittscore and therefore was found to be superior to the massed training group(P<0.05). The determination of glucose and free fatty acid values wereSignificantly different between the two groups (P<0.05).
