ABSTRACT CENTRALIZERS OF ELEMENTS IN LOCALLY FINITE SIMPLE GROUPS SEZER, Sezgin M.S. in Mathematics Supervisor: Mahmut Kuzucuoğlu January 1992, 129 pages This thesis is a survey of the basic results of B.Hartley and M.Kuzucuoğlu and gives clarified and detailed proofs of the theorems of their joint paper. The main topic is centralizers of elements in locally finite simple groups. As an appli cation the question: `Is it true that in every infinite, locally finite simple group G one has Cg(<7)= Gfor every element g in G?` is answered for countable infinite locally finite groups.
