Abstract
Geometrik oda akustiği, fiziksel modeller, ışın izleme yöntemi, darbe yanıtı. vı ABSTRACT SCALE MODELS AND COMPUTER SIMULATIONS FOR PREDICTING ACOUSTICS OF ENCLOSURES AŞAN, Buket M.S. in Building Science, Architecture Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Mehmet ÇALIŞKAN Co-supervisor: Inst. Türel SARANLİ December, 1997, 101 Pages In this study physical scale models and computer simulations are discussed as alternate means to predict the acoustical quality of enclosures. A two step design procedure is proposed for the acoustical/architectural design of enclosures with complementary use of both models. Different measurement techniques for scale models, such as optical and wave methods and the basics of ray-tracing, image-source and hybrid methods of computer simulations are outlined. The accuracy, advantages and disadvantages of these prediction methods are discussed and explained with examples. For a comparison of physical scale models and computer simulations, studies were carried out in an existing enclosure, the METU, Faculty of Architecture Auditorium. Measurements were taken in the hall and values of various acoustic parameters, such as reverberation time, early decay time, definition and clarity were detected. The same measures of the hall were calculated by a computer program, Bass Software and measurements were carried out with a 1/16 scale model. mRecommended values of these parameters and correspondence of the values of full-size measurements with the calculated values obtained by the software and values obtained by scale model measurements were studied. Key Words: Geometrical room acoustics, physical scale models, ray-tracing method, impulse response IV
