The real name of Berberziide Mehmed Zihnf is Mehmed. According to thesources he was called with an agnomen as `Berberz&de7' because of his father's jobas a barber and has being worked as a barber chamberlain by himself also. He wasborn in Istanbul. He worked in the Divh-I Htim8yCur office for paperwork and had aclose relationship with Grand Vizier R h l Pasha and by that mean he was promotedto dockyard as a clerk who takes daily notes and makes documentation He helpedthe Pasha to hide during the Edirne Events but after Pasha's disposition from duty,Zihni was also dismissed from his position and did not work till H. 1120, M. 170819.Berberziide Mehmed Zihni died in H. 1127, M. 1715.Beside the collection of poems (Divan) which is studied by this thesis work, itis written in sources that he had some incomplete works mimed as `Tezkiretii'l-Meg&yih`, `M~srii'l-Kahire` and `Vef^aiit7'There is a prose introduction part in the `Gayr-1 miirettep` Divh regardingthe 10 varak poetry . In Mehmed Zihnf's Divan he prefers lyric (Gazel) poetry and inthis Divan 317 Lyrics (5 Persian, 1 Arabic language), 1 118time-i divan namedHdtime-i Divan der-Ayet-i Eyviin, 1 tarih regarding the composition of the Divannamed Tdrih-i Divan San 'at-r Evzdn and 1 terci-bend of 10 Bents each composed by11 verses are included.The purpose of the study is to introduce `Berberzsde Diva` to the scientificarea. General information about Berberzrlde biography and literary works andanalysis of the structure and content of the Divan are covered by this thesis work.Although BerberzMe Divan] is a text written in the 18 century, it does not reflect thelanguage characteristics of that period exactly and also the language characteristicsare not identical in the text. Berberz&de used words, which were not generaliyprefened, he used many proverbs, idioms and gnomic expressions to support hisintention of writing in a more wisdom and advisable way. It is necessary to underlinethat poet is advanced in Persian and Arabic language and has 5 Persian and 2 ArabicGaze1 in his literary work. BerberzEtde Divan1 is also very rich in content.
