VI Abstract By the general re-orientation of the foreign language didactics at pragmatic and educational objectives in the communicative teaching and particularly by the effects of the `Response Theory`, important aspects of the teaching and methodology of understanding in the foreign language have changed. Particularly as means of the culture switching, the extension of the interest of reader, the extension of horizon, the literature has transferred an enormous role in foreign language instruction. To learn, to read, speak, to use a foreign language, is not the only problem but also connected with learning a language to understand its culture is the biggest problem for the learners. Because each country has its own culture and who does not understand the culture can not completely understand the language either. Thus the literature, as biggest culture mediators, has taken its place beside the other texts in coursebooks in foreign language instruction. This reorientation to the literary text in the literature teaching has led to this study. The meaning of the `short-stories` as literary text their flexibility, variability their application possibilities and their historical background as well as the function carried as horizon expander and culture mediators, makes the short-story an usefull text for language instruction. In this work it will be exactly concerned with these problems, the aim of this study is to discuss the value of `short stories` as literary texts in the language courses/lessons.
