Abstract
Anahtar Kelimeler: Obezite Cerrahisi (Bariatrik), Psikopatoloji, Tedavi Motivasyonu, Transteorik Model ve Değişim Evreleri, Yeme Özellikleri, Beden Bölgelerinden Hoşnutsuzluk Obesity surgery-bariatric which is a way for obese individuals to lose weight is recently becoming to be commonly practiced in our country just as commonly as in the World. This descriptive study aims to investigate eating disorder symptom levels, levels of body dissatisfaction, treatment motivation, eating properties, diet- physical exercise behaviours and attitudes, reasons of weight gain and loss of the individuals who are morbid obese and are willing to undergo obesity surgery (Surgical Canditate Group-CAG) and the differences of total number of physical illnesses of these individuals in relation to the individuals who are either morbid obese but are not willing to undergo obesity surgery or non-morbid obese (Control Group-KG). Additionally to further evaluate psychopathological frequencies in CAG.In this research, Participants are 25 individuals in CAG and 25 in KG who are matched with CAG according to age, education, employment status, marital status, economical level and presence of chronic illnesses. The Demographic Information Form, Eating Disorders Examination Questionnaire, Body Image Satisfaction Questionnaire, Obesity Stages of Change Questionnaire, SCID-I, SCID-II and Symptom Checklist-90-Revised are administered to all participants. Results indicate that CAG?s level of eating disorder symptoms, level of body dissatisfaction and total number of physical illness differ significantly from KG but there is no significant difference between the groups in terms of treatment motivations. However, in CAG, women are diagnosed more frequently than men according to DSM-IV-TR. The results are discussed according to related literature. In conclusion the individuals who are morbid obese and are willing to undergo obesity surgery have different eating patterns, experience more physical illness and are more dissatisfied with their bodies than those who are not willing to undergo obesity surgery. Therefore, a careful evaluation of these individuals who are willing to undergo obesity surgery both before and after surgery is crucial for improving their adaptation to and thus the success of their treatment. Keywords: Obesity surgery (Bariatric), Psychopathology, Treatment Motivation, Transtheoretical Model and Stages of Change, Eating Properties, Body Dissatisfaction
