Abstract
SUMMARY In this study we aimed to analyse the effects of testicular cancer on the sexual and psychosocial life in long term survivors. We investigated self-esteem, self-concept, depressive mood and psychosomatic symptoms in psychological area and sexual problems caused by testicular cancer. We worked with two groups. One group is the patients and the other is the control group. We valued 60 answers which were given by the 74 testicular testis cancer patients who were ured between 1989-1992 in Istanbul University Oncology Institute. The control group was matched with the patient group in age, education, marital and working status. In both group we used Semi-structured Interview form, the 4 subtests of Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale; self-esteem, self-concept, depressiv mood and psychosomatic symptoms and Sexual History Scale. We can summarize our findings like this:. There is no difference between patient and control group in the filed of self-esteem. Testicular cancer patients are more depressive than the healthy men in control group.. Testicular cancer patients have more sexual problems. Main problems are:. Loss of libido. Erection diffuculties. Premature ejeculation. Orgasmic problems As a result, like in the literature we also found as psychological disorder; depression and as sexual dysfunctions; loss of libido, erection diffuculties, premature ejeculation and orgasmic problems. Marital relationships were strength. To work and high level of education effects on the dealing with the illness and the adaption in social life, positively.
