Abstract
Anahtar kelimeler: Rachmaninoff, Piyano, Sonat, İnceleme, Döngüsel sonat Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Sonata Op.36 No.2 has a very important place in piano literature. To begin with, this sonata is one of the rarest sonatas having two versions, both of which are performed frequently around the world. Both versions of this work were performed by world renowned pianists such as Van Cliburn and Vladimir Horowitz in the last century. The reason for the pianists for their preference of the version they perform may be directly related to the work's structure. The analysis of the both versions of this work, taken into the account that the versions were composed with 18 years apart, will present a different perspective regarding to the changes of the composer's composition technique and also partly shed light to the changes of the piano music in time in general. Ever since Franz Liszt's b minor Piano Sonata, the importance of the use of cyclic structure in the sonata form has gradually increased. The use of cyclic structure in the sonata form is also an application Rachmaninoff had worked on.In this work, by analysing the 1913 and 1931 versions of Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Sonata, it is intended to shed light to the composer's application of the cyclic structure in the sonata form and changes on the composer's piano writing.
