Abstract
Can Yücel'in Sırça Kümes adlı çevirisi ile Aytuğ İz'at'ın Sırça Hayvan Koleksiyonu adlı çevirisi; iki çevirmenin çeviri kararları bağlamında Gideon Toury'nin norm kavramından, çevirilerin inceleme ve karşılaştırma aşamasında ise Andrew Chesterman'ın çeviri stratejileri sınıflandırılmasından yararlanılmıştır. Söz konusu çeviriler incelendikten sonra elde edilen örnekler tablolaştırılmıştır. Chesterman'ın çeviri stratejileri dikkate alınarak ilgili bölüm betimleyici bir anlayışla kuramsal çerçeveye oturtulmuştur. Bu süreçte, Can Yücel ve Aytuğ İz'at'ın çeviri üzerine düşünceleri de dikkate alınmıştır. Kuramsal çerçeve bağlamında elde edilen veriler sonuç bölümünde tekrar değerlendirilmiştir. En genel anlamda, Can Yücel The Glass Menagerie oyununun `öz`ünü değiştirmeden erek dile aktarmayı amaçladığı, İz'at'ın ise klasik anlamda sadakat kavramı üzerine yoğunlaşarak kaynak metnin biçimini korumaya odaklandığı sonucuna varılmıştır.Anahtar Kelimeler: Sırça Kümes, Sırça Hayvan Koleksiyonu, The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams, tiyatro çevirisi, Türkiye'de tiyatro çevirisi In Turkish literary system, translated theatre opened up windows to new societies and new genres for the target culture and literature. On the other hand, the text-based theatre in other words dramatic theatre brought many problems while it was introduced to Turkish cultural system through translation. In this thesis, the history of translation of dramatic texts is explored in terms of westernization and modernization of target culture. The objective here is to examine the footprints of westernization and modernization in translation approach and theatre translation practices. In this work, two translations of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie, published by Ministry of National Education Publishing and Mitos Boyut Publishing, has been studied. In the analysis of Sırça Kümes translated by Can Yücel and Sırça Hayvan Koleksiyonu translated by Aytuğ İz'at: Gideon Toury's concept of norms has been used while describing the decisions of two translators and Andrew Chesterman's classification of translation strategies have been used for the study and comaprision of the translations. After the analysis of the two translations of the play, the examples are exposed under tables. And then a descriptive assessment has been made under the each table in order to position them in theoretical pattern through Chesterman's strategies. In this process, Can Yücel's and Aytuğ İz'at's own ideas on translation have been also taken into into consideration. As a consequence, the data gathered in the light of the theoretical perspective mentioned above has been discussed again in the conclusion part. We reach the conclusion that Can Yücel aims at translating The Glass Menagerie without sacrificing the `sense` of the play. On the other hand Aytuğ İz'at prefers literal translation, and focusses on protecting the form of the source text.Key Words: Sırça Kümes, Sırça Hayvan Koleksiyonu, The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams, theatre translation, translation of drama in Turkey
