Abstract
DC SUMMARY ECONOMIC ANALYSIS AND DEVELOPMENT POSSEBILITD2S OF GRAZING SYSTEM IN FORESTS This PhD. thesis was prepared at the Department of Forestry Economics, Institute of Natural Sciences of Istanbul University. In this thesis, the livestock production system based on goat and its components were studied in upper Köprüçay Basin. Woody vegetation has traditionally been used as a forage source by the domestic herbivores especially the goats. It can be mentioned that there is a great potential for the use of woody vegetation as a food source for animals. However, in unprotected forests grazing by the uncontrolled goats damage forests. Goats are blamed for reducing the long term income from forests. On the other hand in many regions of Turkey goat owners and herdsmen live at subsistence level and they are, generally, the poorest people of their society. In this thesis, the relationship between goat and forest was also searched and according to the findings some suggestions are pointed out for sustainability of the system.
